I currently campaign a '95 Mazda
Miata in SCCA Solo II competition. I'm learning a lot about car control
(and how to drive such a small car!) but it's slow in the going.
This is my checklist of things I bring to a Solo II event.
- The car. Yeah, I'm that absent-minded.
- Tires, jack, and torque wrench
- Koni adjusterator
- 10mm ratchet to get to where I use the Koni adjusterator
- A pair of Chucks. The Miata's got such a small pedal area
that my usual gunboat-type running shoes aren't ideal for competition.
I don't wear the Chucks to the lot, though, because they're lousy for
working the course.
- A hat. Keeps the rain out of my eyes.
- Sunglasses. Keeps the sun out of my eyes.
- Sunblock
- water
- Duct tape
- Mechanic's gloves. I wear 'em during course setup or when
chasing cones.
- Helmet. Mine's a Simpson Bandit 8, but don't take that to mean
you should go buy one, too. Buy your first helmet from somebody that
will let you stick your head in a few different ones to see what
works on your cranium.
- Something to take notes on. For me, this is my two-way pager.
- A quart of oil. Haven't needed it yet, but I might someday...
- Tire gauge.
- Leatherman Wave. If it's too broken to be fixed with the duct
tape and the Leatherman, I'll bum a ride home and come back with
a truck full of tools.
- Numbers. Mine are made from sheets of magnet.
